Teen shot dead in front of girlfriend during robbery in Parkland identified, video of suspect’s vehicle released

May 26, 2026, 10:05 AM

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office is looking for the suspects who robbed a teenage boy in Parkland and then shot him to death in front of his girlfriend.

Pierce County deputies received calls at approximately 7:15 p.m. Sunday that a 17-year-old boy was lying in the roadway at the 10200 block of Sheridan Avenue S. in Parkland after he was shot. When deputies arrived at the scene, they began life-saving efforts on the victim, who was eventually pronounced dead at the scene.

“Preliminary information indicates the victim was walking with his girlfriend when a vehicle approached and called him over,” the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office stated. “Suspects in the vehicle robbed the victim of some jewelry, shot him, then fled the scene.”

The victim has since been identified as Braylon Daniel Diaz, who was killed while walking his girlfriend home Sunday evening. According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, the fatal attack is believed to be random.

On Tuesday, detectives released surveillance video of the suspect vehicle, seen above.

“This remains a very active investigation,” the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office stated. “Anyone with surveillance footage or information about the suspects is asked to contact our office and speak with a detective.”

A GoFundMe has been set up to help Diaz’s family with funeral costs and additional expenses.

Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
