The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) responded to a hit-and-run collision, and the suspect, under suspicion of DUI, allegedly struck TCSO deputies with a helmet during apprehension.

The suspect fled the crash, and TCSO gathered evidence of DUI while deputies were on the scene.

“TCSO deputies responded to a hit-and-run collision. The suspect left on foot, and there was evidence of open containers of alcohol inside the car,” TCSO Sheriff Sanders shared in a Facebook post on Tuesday.

Securing the hit-and-run arrest

The sheriff’s office positively identified the suspect while talking to neighbors near the collision, and the suspect returned carrying a motorcycle helmet, TCSO stated.

“After a short interaction, the suspect was advised he was under arrest and not free to leave,” Sheriff Sanders wrote. “He then tried to get into a family member’s car and leave, at which point a deputy and his trainee went hands-on.”

The suspect refused the deputy’s commands, striking one deputy in the face with his helmet, and the second attempt was blocked by a trainee.

“The suspect stated he was not going to jail before swinging and striking one deputy in the face with the helmet before pulling back and attempting to land another helmet strike when the trainee blocked it with his hand,” TCSO wrote.

The suspect was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI, hit and run, assault in the 2nd and 3rd degree, resisting arrest, and felony harassment threats to kill, among others.
