A 17-year-old boy was arrested Saturday after an armed robbery of a Walgreens in West Seattle.

At approximately 4:26 p.m. in the 6300 block of 35th Ave. S.W., two male suspects robbed the Walgreens at gunpoint, and stole cash from the register, the Seattle Police Department (SPD) announced.

A tracker located inside the stolen cash provided SPD officers with real-time updates of the stolen money’s location. Police quickly located one of the suspects, who began to run away from officers.

Seattle robbery suspect flees SPD on foot

The suspect led law enforcement on a foot pursuit, before officers were able to catch up with him and arrest him.

SPD believed the suspect discarded a firearm during the foot chase before officers were able to arrest him.

A K9 handler with the Arson and Bomb Squad responded to the scene and searched for additional evidence. The K9 team was able to locate a loaded handgun with an extended magazine nearby.

Officers recovered the firearm and $1,523 in stolen cash as evidence.

After the arrest was made, the Federal Way Police Department (FWPD) contacted SPD and confirmed two suspects with similar descriptions had robbed another Walgreens pharmacy roughly one hour before the Seattle robbery.

FWPD found probable cause for charges against one suspect for his connection in the previous Federal Way robbery.

SPD booked the suspect into juvenile detention for various charges at the Judge Patricia H. Clark Children & Family Justice Center.

One suspect remains at large. The SPD investigation remains underway, and has been assigned to the Robbery Unit.

Anyone with information is urged to call the SPD Violent Crimes Tip Line at (206) 233-5000. SPD noted that anonymous tips are accepted.
