A 36-year-old man was arrested Tuesday night after shooting up his apartment in West Seattle, according to the Seattle Police Department.

Police said officers were sent to the building around 10:45 p.m. to the 3200 block of California Avenue Southwest after 911 calls described gunfire coming from within an apartment building. Once they arrived, officers heard continued gunshots and shouting coming from one of the units.

Responding patrol officers quickly established a perimeter, and the department’s Hostage Negotiation Team (HNT) was called. As a precaution, residents in adjacent units were evacuated.

After negotiating, the suspect surrendered without a fight. He was treated at the scene for unspecified injuries by the Seattle Fire Department and taken to Harborview Medical Center for evaluation.

Inside the apartment, police found guns, ammunition, and what looked like methamphetamine. As a convicted felon, the man is not allowed to own guns.

Once cleared from the hospital, the suspect was booked into King County Jail on suspicion of first- and second-degree assault, as well as unlawful possession of a firearm.
