Pioneer Square has a new destination for craft cocktails after Death & Co. officially opened its first Seattle bar Thursday.

The opening came two years after initial plans were filed. The New York-based cocktail concept is located in RailSpur Alley and is known for its award-winning drinks and menus.

“Our fifth outpost brings our commitment to fine cocktails and exceptional hospitality to the Pacific Northwest while introducing a distinctly local expression of our bar,” the company stated.

The 80-person occupancy bar features both indoor and outdoor seating right in the heart of Pioneer Square.

The Seattle location is the brand’s latest expansion; it also has bars in Los Angeles, Denver, and Washington, D.C. Its New York flagship location was recently featured in a May Forbes piece highlighting the five best cocktail bars in the city.

Death & Co’s 2007 East Village opening helped usher in the craft cocktail scene,” Forbes wrote in May. “The speakeasy-style space, complete with exposed brick, low lighting, and black leather banquettes, reconstructed the standard drink menu format in a distinctive way for its time.”

The bar features a 12-page drink menu, along with a collection of snacks, shared-plate meals, and tartines.
