Dave Chappelle stops at Climate Pledge Arena
Chappelle performed at Climate Pledge Arena last December. The event was a phone-free experience, with attendees’ phones secured in pouches that opened at the end of the event.
Chappelle became widely known through “Chappelle’s Show,” the sketch comedy series that debuted on Comedy Central in 2003. The series earned three Emmy nominations and helped establish him as a major figure in television comedy, according to the Kennedy Center.
His career also includes film appearances in “Half Baked,” “The Nutty Professor,” “You’ve Got Mail,” “Undercover Brother” and “A Star Is Born.” Chappelle began developing his stand-up act as a teenager while attending Washington, D.C.’s Duke Ellington School of the Arts.
In 2019, he received the Kennedy Center’s Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. The award recognizes people whose work has influenced American society through humor and social commentary.
Chappelle has also built an extensive catalog of stand-up specials. In 2017, he released four Netflix specials: “The Age of Spin,” “Deep in the Heart of Texas,” “Equanimity” and “The Bird Revelation.” That year, he also received his first Emmy for hosting “Saturday Night Live,” adding another television honor to his career.
