Call it sibling rivalry. Call it a brotherly battle. Either way you put it, Seattle’s superhero Phoenix Jones is taking the long-standing feud with his own brother into the fighting ring.

Jones is slated to take on this brother Caros Fodor for a World Series of Fighting event.

Phoenix Jones – born Ben Fodor – was adopted by the same mother as Caros. It was because of their mother that the superhero almost didn’t take the fight at first.

“She told me not to take the fight. So I called them and said, ‘Hey, I can’t do it. My mom is not going to let me,’” Phoenix said.

But things changed quickly, according to Phoenix, because Caros already signed on to fight. It is, therefore, “Caros’ fault,” according to Phoenix. The superhero said that because he waited to sign on to the fight, he is making a lot more money than his brother. He wants to put the money toward a camera system that will allow him to live stream his patrols when he is fighting crime in Seattle.

The brothers reportedly do not get along — Caros has often mocked his brother’s superhero antics. Phoenix said that the two have always had an adversarial relationship.

“We’ve gotten along off-and-on. It comes down to — he doesn’t like my crime fighting. And he’s always talking about how it’s a cry for attention. And he’s always been the family’s favorite,” he said. “And I’ve always been better at athletics and everything else than him so it’s annoying to watch everybody be like ‘Oh, look how good he did,’ when you are always doing better.”

“I wish I could break it down to just one moment. But it’s a history of being treated a certain way by somebody. Even the way our adoptions went down. Caros knows his family, his biological family. Down to the different things we did growing up and the different ways we were treated differently by our parents built the animosity,” he said. “Every time one of us does something, the other tries to do it better. It’s become this thing for years.”

But Phoenix isn’t all talk. He knows the fight he faces and his opponent. He admits that his brother is a better fighter than him. Caros is a Marine veteran and a mixed martial artist who has fought in Strikeforce, UFC, and ONE Fighting Championship. He currently has a fighting record of five losses to 10 wins.

Phoenix Jones has a professional fighting record of six wins, one loss, and one draw. His amateur mixed martial arts record is 15 wins and two losses.

“The difference is he doesn’t have the body for it. He isn’t built for battle. He’s driving a Honda and I’m a Ferrari,” Phoneix said. “I got to make him chase my speed. But if we went skill-for-skill, he would beat me every day.”

Caros and Phoenix are training in the same gym in the lead up to the fight. It’s a tense training.
The fight is scheduled for July 30 at the Xfinity Arena in Everett.
