Rantz: Seattle Police Chief in Super Bowl commercial

Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best was featured in a Super Bowl commercial.

The Verizon ad, voiced by Harrison Ford, highlights their new 5G service. While explaining the capabilities of the service, the commercial highlights what it can’t do: act heroically.

The Super Bowl commercial highlights a series of still photographs to a new, unreleased Pearl Jam song. The photographs highlight first responders, including police, firefighters, and doctors.

“5G is going to change a lot of things,” Ford says as a picture of Chief Best is shown, “but luckily for all of us, not everything.”

Variety reports:

Verizon for a second year linked its ad to scenes of first responders and emergency workers. Ford’s voice tells viewers that Verizon’s coming 5G service will make all kinds of things possible, including better communications for firefighters and emergency-room personnel, but notes that nothing will replace the efforts of those personnel. A series of inspirational still photos of rescue workers flows as he continues to speak, with the Pearl Jam song playing quietly all the while.
