Due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis, we are now having a national conversation about voting by mail, which we already do in Washington state. The system seems to be only as good as the Secretary of State who happens to be in power at the time, which in Washington’s case is Kim Wyman. Jason believes she is doing a good job.
But where do we stand nationally as it relates to voting by mail? RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel joined the Jason Rantz Show on KTTH to discuss this and other issues related to coronavirus.
“I have huge concerns about voting by mail, and I agree your Secretary of State, Kim Wyman, is doing a great job, and she’s written some really excellent articles about the process it took for Washington state,” McDaniel said. “It took years and years to implement it. There were a lot of safeguards put in place, and what the Democrats are trying to do right now is a nationalized voting thrust into states that haven’t put those safeguards in place.”

“We have to maintain our election integrity, and every state has the capacity to have absentee voting for their military men and women and for our seniors. Every single state has that, so there’s no need for a national vote by mail program, except for Democrats trying to take away many of the safeguards that give us comfort that we can trust our election process.”
Will Washington state go red?
It’s something Jason has asked Washington state GOP chairman Caleb Heimlich, and always remains on the radar. What does Chairwoman McDaniel think are the chances of Washington state going red? Is this something that she’s looking toward long-term or short-term?
“Caleb is one of the best state party chairs in the country, and he has served Washington state party for quite some time. Listen, I’m from a blue state. I’m from Michigan. It was a state that everybody wrote off. I think if the state party does their job right with partnership with the RNC and good candidates, which you have, then anything can happen,” she said.

“But everybody has to work hard and believe and not write off your state,” she added. “And that includes the people that live there, and so get out, volunteer, do the work. … Especially with the governor you have, I think that there are a lot of people who want to see some changes in your state.”
As Jason noted, however, as much as he’s not a fan of Inslee, McDaniel has a governor who’s gone far more Draconian in recent weeks during the coronavirus outbreak.
“I know, 100 percent. I said to somebody today, I’m calling you from the police state of Michigan, where we’re under martial law because our governor won’t let us do anything. We’re in a state where you can’t mow your grass, you can only smoke it,” she joked.
