Men trying to score more time on the couch for March Madness are using vasectomies as an excuse, according to a CNN report.

Dr. Ed Sabanegh, chairman of the Department of Urology at the Cleveland Clinic, tells CNN that men sometimes ask the docs to exaggerate recommendations for recovery.

“A lot of patients come in and say, ‘I have to have this during March Madness, you have to talk to my wife about it. Tell her what my limitations are and that I need to be on the couch.'”

“If you’re going to get a vasectomy, what better time,” says KIRO Radio’s Tom Tangney, “since so many men are into sports, to just sit on the couch.”

But Tom & Curley co-host John Curley says he’s had a vasectomy, and the rest required for recovery really doesn’t warrant any days-long period of rest on the couch.

“This idea that you need to be on the couch with a bag of frozen peas for two or three days is just a load of crap.”

Curley got his vasectomy right before Christmas and says he was putting up Christmas lights the next day.

“Women, listen to me,” says Curley, “don’t let the guy tell you he needs to be out three or four days – you don’t have to do that. If they do say that, just give them a little punch in the old surgery spot.”
