Husky fans are going to have less time to tailgate, thanks to a new policy announced Monday, and that could mean more alcohol consumption in a shorter amount of time.
The Seattle Times reports there will be two big changes in place at Husky Stadium this season. For one, football fans will only be allowed to bring clear bags. But maybe more life-changing will be the time limitation for “The Zone.”
The popular tailgating spot behind the east end zone will close 10 minutes prior to the start of the third quarter. The Times reports that people have complained that fans who go to the area during halftime “are slow to return to their seats.”
KIRO Radio’s Tom Tangney says he appreciates The Zone restrictions. Half the third quarter is watching drunk people stumble back in.
Tom Tangney: I think it’s a great idea.
John Curley: I think the downside of that is the amount of alcohol consumed will increase. They will pound several beers and chase it with something else. Then they will stumble back in. And while they may be earlier, they will be drunker.
However, if the change doesn’t lead to a more positive experience, the Times reports The Zone could be closed completely.
Tom Tangney: They’re going to do all they can to make sure people aren’t too drunk.
John Curley: Oh. Maybe you guys are going to have to start winning games.
