John & Shari: Seattle Kraken hears you — lower prices are coming soon

In a recent interview, the Seattle Kraken CEO indicated that there could be lower prices coming soon for items at Climate Pledge Arena — including beer.

Tod Leiweke, president and CEO of the Kraken, spoke to Q13 FOX News’ Aaron Levine this week, and answered questions about how the team is coming along, along with a lot of other topics.

“This is the most trenchant part of the whole conversation, I think — as a fan of both Aaron and Tod,” KIRO Newsradio host John Curley said.

Levine asked if prices at Climate Pledge Arena, particularly beer prices, would ever be lowered.

“We actually are going to do a little price adjusting here midway through the season,” Leiweke replied. “… We check prices out against all other venues, all the time. But there’s beer available, a can of beer can be had for under 10 bucks. So it’s still not cheap — I remember as a young guy in a VFW hall buying them for 50 cents — but we’re a listening organization.”

“We listen every day. We listen every game,” he added. “And while this isn’t for the faint of heart, I wish we could give away the beer for free. But we do have some bills to pay, it was privately financed, and it’s really trying to find balance. But we’ve heard the fans and we know that they want some family priced items, … and we understand on the beer, and there is some new pricing coming.”

Currently, John says, it’s $16 for a beer.

“That’s even too high for me, and I like beer,” host Shari Elliker said. “That would be a deal breaker in the beer department, I think.”

“That’s like Broadway prices,” she added, referencing a drink you may buy before or during intermission of a Broadway show in New York City. “Those little plastic cups they give you — they give you the little thing, you can take into the theater now.”

“You think you enjoy it more because you paid more for it?” John asked.

“No,” Shari laughed. “I think you just want a beer and you figure, well, when in Rome.”
