City of Redmond to Give Away Hundreds of Trees

Redmond is about to get a little greener.

As part of the city’s goal to reach 40% tree canopy cover by 2050, city officials are hosting their second annual tree giveaway event on Oct. 10, where 750 trees will be passed out.

Parties interested in the free trees need to fill out a survey. Those eligible to receive the free trees include nonprofits, faith organizations, schools, small businesses with fewer than 25 employees, HOAs, and others. Educational materials will also be present to help participants choose which trees best fit their needs.

“Trees are vital to what makes Redmond a wonderful community — they are crucial to stream and habitat health, they improve people’s wellbeing, and they are critical to responding to climate change,” Redmond Mayor Angela Birney said in a statement. “We value trees in Redmond, and by planting hundreds across our city, our community is playing a meaningful part in improving our climate.”

At last year’s event, 500 trees were given away. The city of Redmond will host a community planting event with Green Redmond sometime in October.
