Everett One Step Closer to Proposed Downtown Event Center

Earlier this month, the Everett City Council approved funding to purchase four properties for the city’s proposed Outdoor Event Center, bringing it closer to securing the land needed for the envisioned project.

Everett currently has purchase and sale agreements for 11 of the 17 properties required for the site. According to the city, closing on the four properties will give Everett enough control of the land to begin the initial stages of site preparations.

Funding for the three properties will come from a $7.4-million grant from the Washington State Department of Commerce, while previously approved project funding will cover the fourth.

The proposed downtown event center has a current budget target of $120 million and would become the new home of the Everett Aquasox. The project was initially proposed after new Major League Baseball facility requirements left Funko Field, the team’s current home, out of compliance.

Plans for the event center also include space for other sports, festivals, and community events, along with an urban park and half-mile walking loop. The United Soccer League has also been identified as a potential partner for bringing men’s and women’s professional soccer to Everett.

The city anticipates construction could begin in early fall of 2026, but a full funding plan for the project is still expected to go before the city council later this summer.
