Who wants to do chores on a vacation? Rental company Airbnb announced a new global policy that bans hosts from requiring guests to perform time-consuming checkout tasks such as stripping the bed, taking out the trash, or washing and putting away dishes.

This change comes after years of backlash from guests who’ve complained about long checkout instructions, and even fines for not taking out the trash after paying for a cleaning fee.

Hosts also won’t be able to restrict the use of amenities advertised in their listing. Guests must also be able to see all house rules and requests at the time of booking.

According to the new rules, hosts can include information about fees for optional add-ons, like breakfast service, in their requests.

The new rules take effect for all bookings made on or after November 20, 2026.
