As the Seattle Mariners prepare to celebrate Ichiro Hall of Fame Weekend at T-Mobile Park, the downtown skyline is also set to honor the Ms legend.

On Friday night, Ichiro Suzuki’s number 51 will be on full display at the Russell Investments Center on the corner of Union Street and 2nd Avenue. The building’s windows will illuminate a giant “51” after sunset, facing Puget Sound and the Seattle Waterfront.

Other downtown skyscrapers are also taking part in the celebration by turning their exterior lights blue.

Mariners retiring Ichiro’s number

On Saturday night, the Mariners are retiring Ichiro’s number during a special pre-game ceremony prior to first pitch against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Ichiro Hall of Fame Weekend begins Friday night with a special jersey giveaway for the first 20,000 fans. The replica 2004 jersey honors the night Ichiro broke the MLB single-season hit record. He ended the season with 262 hits, a record that still stands.

On Sunday, the first 20,000 fans will receive a replica of Ichiro’s Hall of Fame plaque at Cooperstown.
