Sound Credit Union Breaks Ground on New Port Orchard Branch

Tacoma-based Sound Credit Union on Tuesday ceremoniously broke ground on a new branch in Port Orchard. The site will be Sound’s 27th full-service branch in the Puget Sound region when it opens next spring.

Sound Credit Union purchased the property two years ago at the intersection of Bethel Road Southeast and Southeast Vallair Court.

“We are thrilled to expand our roots into Port Orchard,” Don Clark, president and CEO of Sound Credit Union, said in a news release. “Our members have been asking when we would open a branch in this area, and we’re excited to finally say that we’re coming soon. Not only will Sound serve as a trusted financial partner, but we also look forward to being an employer and community partner that helps strengthen Port Orchard.”

Sound serves more than 1,600 members who live in Port Orchard, offering financial products and services for consumers and businesses that include personal and business checking and savings accounts, auto loans, mortgage loans, personal loans, business loans, and more.

Jacalyn Williams, executive director of the South Kitsap Chamber of Commerce, which hosted Tuesday’s ground-breaking, said in a statement, “We are thrilled to have them in Port Orchard, and we look forward to watching Sound become an important part of South Kitsap for many years to come.”

Construction is expected to begin this week, with Tacoma-based Korsmo Construction as general contractor. Sound and Korsmo worked with Tacoma-based BCRA Design on the branch’s design. The branch will feature an open-concept layout with private meeting rooms, as well as a drive-thru and ATM/ITM services for members and the community. Construction is anticipated to be completed in first quarter 2027, with the branch estimated to open in May.

Sound had almost 185,000 members, assets of $3.4 billion, and 427 full-time employees as of June 30, according to National Credit Union Administration data.
