The Gundam Base, a Gunpla facility for Gundam fans, is expanding in the United States with two new locations scheduled to open this fall — one of them at Westfield Southcenter in Tukwila, according to announcement last week from Bandai Namco Amusement America Inc. and Bandai Namco Toys & Collectibles America Inc.

Another is opening at Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota.

The new locations follow the successful launch of The Gundam Base at Fashion Outlets of Chicago — the first permanent location in North America for fans to experience the world of Gunpla, according to a news release from Bandai Namco.

The Gundam Base is a destination for fans of the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise and Gundam plastic model kits, or Gunpla. The new stores will offer an immersive retail experience featuring a wide selection of model kits, exclusive merchandise, premium and life-size displays and immersive Gundam-themed environments, and special products marking 45-plus years of Gundam history.

The Chicago store has welcomed thousands of visitors from across North America since it opened last year, becoming a destination for longtime Gundam enthusiasts and newcomers discovering the hobby, the release said. The response paved the way for expansion across the country.

Additional details regarding grand-opening celebrations, exclusive merchandise, and special events for each location will be announced closer to their respective opening dates.

The Gundam series began with the TV anime “Mobile Suit Gundam,” which first aired in 1979 in Japan. The franchise features a wide variety of robots, including the iconic Gundam itself, according to Gundam’s website.
