The Youth Marine Foundation announced in a press release that it has appointed Sandesh Sadalge as its new chief executive officer. He will begin serving in the role on Aug. 3.

Sadalge also is the Tacoma City Council representative for District 4, and has more than 20 years of experience in finance, operations, analytics, and organizational management.

“The board is excited to welcome Sandesh to the Youth Marine Foundation,” said Tom Rogers, president of the foundation’s board of directors, in the release. “Sandesh demonstrated the strategic leadership, collaborative approach, and operational experience needed to guide the organization into its next chapter.”

Born in India, Sadalge immigrated to the United States with his family at age 6 and later became a U.S. citizen while attending college.

Before entering public service, he helped grow a Tideflats business that employed more than 25 people, and as a city councilmember, he’s focused on housing, small business, and data-informed policymaking, according to the release.

The Youth Marine Foundation prepares young people and adults for careers in Washington’s maritime industry through hands-on training, workforce-development, and education programs. Participants receive training aboard the M/V Doolin-Rogers, earn industry credentials, and connect with maritime employers. The organization has also partnered with the Tacoma Sea Scouts and other community organizations to expand access to maritime education.

Sadalge said in the release that he looks forward to working with the foundation’s staff, board members, industry partners, donors, and community stakeholders to expand opportunities for young people and continue advancing the organization’s mission.

“I am honored to join the Youth Marine Foundation as such an important time,” Sadalge said. “YMF has built an outstanding reputation for preparing individuals for meaningful careers while supporting Washington’s maritime industry.”
