Bothell couple renews wedding vows at home plate during Mariners spring training

A Washington couple celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary by renewing their vows at home plate during Seattle Mariners spring training — the same place where their love story began.

Lee and Joanna Kerber of Bothell returned to the Peoria Sports Complex last week, 12 years after mutual friends unknowingly set them up for a trip to Arizona.

“One of our friends basically just gave me a buddy pass and said, ‘You’re meeting Joe at the airport,’ and I thought Joe was a dude,” Lee Kerber said. “It was pretty funny when I showed up to meet this lady at the airport.”

Both were wearing jeans, black hoodies, and Converse shoes. Flight delays turned the trip into a 12-hour journey, giving them plenty of time to connect. They married two years later.

About 60 friends and family members gathered around the backstop to watch the couple exchange vows again. Their son, Calloway — born the day after Opening Day in 2017 — stood with them on the field.

“It was magical,” Joanna Kerber said. “The Peoria Sports Complex was just great with every detail.”

The ceremony took place under sunny skies ahead of the Mariners’ 50th season, which opens Thursday.

For feminists, the deaths of Parton and Steinem days apart deliver a double dose of grief

One shaped and delivered the language of feminism. The other rejected the label but showed how feminism can be done: with a microphone dusted in rhinestones, and without apology. Gloria Steinem and Dolly Parton embodied two towering versions of the same idea: that women should know themselves well enough to make their own choices about […]
