A report released by the Washington Department of Natural Resources (DNR) concluded that more than 300,000 acres of protected land across the state have burned in 2026.

According to the department, this is the highest number recorded since it began collecting data in 2016.

The state is also on track to set a record for the number of fires burning.

So far, Washington has seen 671 fires in 2026. The most common cause of fires, according to the report, is burning debris.
