A 6.5-pound object that crashed through the roof of a North Bothell home was from a debris grinder.

Bothell Police Sgt. Ken Seuberlich confirmed the object was from a grinder. Police believe they located the work site it came from, 1,500 feet away from the home.

The object landed on a dog bed.

“It was a sizable chunk of metal,” Seuberlich said.

The Federal Aviation Administration responded to the incident as a precaution. A FAA representative told Seuberlich an industrial machine once threw a similar object 1.5 miles.

No injuries are being reported.

Before being confirmed by police, MyNorthwest fan the object is a hammer tip from an industrial-sized wood grinder. Someone nearby was probably grinding stumps and trees in the area when it flew out of the “tub.”

“Tub grinders are very dangerous,” he said. There should not be anything on the side of the tub where debris is flying out, he added.
