It’s going to look like an actual plane crash this week at the south end of Boeing Field, but King County wants you to know: It’s only a drill.

King County will be staging 10 plane crashes this week that will include a full mock-up of a crashed plane. There will be two active drills every day this week.

Nearly 700 people will participate in the week-long series of drills including emergency responders and “victims” played by volunteer actors.

The activity is designed as practice for a mass casualty event and to test the unified command system as well as the abilities of first responders and their managers.

From the freeway and other places overlooking Boeing Field, it might even look like the real thing – minus the smoke and fire.

The county said that because the staging area will look enough like a real emergency event, they wanted to make sure the public was aware that these are only drills.
