Seattleites will soon have more options for international travel, with Alaska Airlines announcing a major expansion of its long-haul routes, according to KIRO 7.

Starting next spring, the airline will offer nonstop summer flights to Reykjavik, Iceland, out of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Sea-Tac) using its Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft.

Alaska Airlines also plans to launch daily year-round service between Seattle and London, England, utilizing its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.

New routes, Dreamliner hub boost Alaska’s global reach from Seattle

To support an increasing number of routes, the airline company is building a new hub for its Dreamliners in Seattle. Alaska aims to operate up to 17 Boeing 787-9s as part of its global network. Additionally, a new pilot base dedicated to Dreamliner operations will open next spring.

These new flights to Iceland and the UK follow recent international route announcements, including upcoming service to Seoul, South Korea in September, Tokyo, Japan in January, and Rome, Italy next spring.

By 2030, Alaska Airlines said it would offer nonstop flights to at least a dozen intercontinental destinations from Sea-Tac.
