Alaskan Way Viaduct cracks widening, more settling found near Seneca

Survey crews measured 1/8 to 1/4 inch of additional settling and widening cracks on the Alaskan Way Viaduct in the past six months.
Crews also found two new cracks on columns near Yesler Way, according to information from the Washington State Department of Transportation.
The viaduct is inspected four times each year, with the most recent survey completed on March 23. The viaduct is safe and monitoring will continue, spokeswoman Laura Newborn told KIRO Radio.
WSDOT said it has added new crack gauges and is focusing on monitoring in these areas.
The agency also released a report that evaluated the $3.1 billion tunnel project. The Expert Review Panel’s April report says they continue to be confident that the project will be completed. They also said there doesn’t appear to be a need for more state or local funds on top of the project’s allocated budget.
