Altura has moved into the space of its sister Italian restaurant, Carrello, in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood.

Altura, which recently celebrated its 15th anniversary, moved across the street from 617 Broadway E to 622 Broadway E, the space its younger sibling, Carrello, formerly occupied.

Altura announced the move on social media in August.

“While it is bittersweet to leave our original home, we are truly excited for what’s to come,” an Instagram post read. “Friday, October 16th, we move across the street into the Carrello space, and a dining room redesigned to preserve the intimacy that has defined Altura since 2011.”

Carrello menu favorites will remain

Carrello isn’t going away, however.

“The lounge area and garden patio will still offer Carrello menu favorites ~ including à la carte, feast for the table, aperitivo hour, and abbinamento,” the social media post stated.

“End of an era! I’m honored to have been a part of it,” Chef Tiffany Thomas commented. “Many great memories and meals were crafted in this space that Nathan built with his own two hands.”

“We’re always running back and forth between restaurants, sharing ingredients and visiting the garden for fresh trimmings, so in a way it’s very exciting,” Carrello said in a post on its Instagram page. “But it’s also bittersweet.”

Altura and Carrello will operate under the Altura name

Chef Nathan Lockwood created the more casual Carrello across the street eight years after opening Altura.

Now, the sister restaurants will operate under the Altura name in the space at 622 Broadway E.

“Chef Nathan built a new coat rack using pieces sourced from an old local church through Earthwise Architectural Salvage,” Carrello’s post said. “There are new wooden dividers creating a more intimate boundary in our dining room, Altura’s future home.”

Over the years, the James Beard Foundation has recognized Lockwood and Altura multiple times.

The merger of Altura and Carrello comes the same week as the closure of The Independent Pizzeria in Seattle’s Madison Park neighborhood.
