Hobby Lobby stops man from caring for the homeless

A Mount Vernon man says craft store Hobby Lobby is trying to stop him from caring for the homeless.

Matt Uyeno tells KIRO7 TV he took donations to buy water for the homeless and set up in the parking lot outside of the Christian-leaning craft store as well as a Dollar Tree.

He says police showed up and accused him of trespassing, saying representatives from Hobby Lobby called them.

The Dollar Tree manager said it was okay for Uyeno to give out water, but police still made him move along.

Hobby Lobby gave no comment on the incident.

Three heat deaths in King County 

There have been at least three heat-related deaths in Washington state in the past week.

All the reported deaths were older people who lived in King County.

It was hotter for longer in Oregon where the weather may have contributed to 14 deaths.

Mass shooting trial continues 

King County heard testimony Monday from some of the victims of the mass shooting in downtown Seattle in January 2020.

One woman was killed, and six others were wounded in that shooting.

Marquis Tolberg and co-defendant William Tolliver are on trial for murder and assault.

In court Monday, shooting victim William Bolt says he tried to get away as he heard the shots coming from 3rd and Pine streets.

Prosecutors say Tolberg and Tolliver were shooting at a rival gang member.

Many downtown office workers sheltered in place for hours, and downtown transit also stopped running that evening, as police investigated.

Man rents out cars in rideshare scheme

People living in Seattle’s Laurelhurst neighborhood say their streets are being filled with cars all owned by one man, Jordan, who rents them out.

Several complaints have been filed against him with the city over the parking issue.

Jordan has about 50 cars he says he parks all over the city, and rents them out through a car-share website called “Turo”.

According to Seattle Police, what Jordan is doing is legal.

Apartment fire in Eastlake

A fire damaged an apartment building in Seattle’s Eastlake area on Monday afternoon.

Seattle Firefighters were called around 4:15 p.m. to the 2200 block of Yale Avenue.

Firefighters said the rooftop and at least one unit in the building were damaged by the flames.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
