Former Vice President and current 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden is appearing at a private fundraiser in Seattle over the weekend, spurring a protest led by Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant.

Amazon ‘should have kept their money’ says Bernie Sanders

Biden will be at a reception in Madison Park on Saturday, with tickets ranging between $1,000 and $2,800 according to The Seattle Times. A second fundraising event will take place later that night in Queen Anne, set for $2,800 per ticket.

The latter event will be hosted by Amazon general counsel David Zapolsky. That had Sawant and the Democratic Socialists of America speaking out, stating that “we can’t let Amazon executives buy another corporate candidate.”

A protest led by Sawant and the DSA will run from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Kerry Park. Also sponsoring the event are Shaun Scott — who ran for city council District 4 — and Tammy Morales, who recently won election in District 2.

The fallout of Amazon’s $1.4 million bid to flip Seattle City Council

Amazon recently drew criticism in Seattle for contributing upwards of $1.5 million toward electing more business-friendly candidates to Seattle City Council, from both Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.

“The people of Seattle want leaders who will fight to end corporate greed, to make big corporations pay their fair share and for affordable housing,” said Sanders in the run-up to the election.

Attendance numbers on the DSA’s Facebook event page are currently hidden, making it unclear how many are expected to attend Saturday’s protest.
