While Apple’s iPad continues to dominate the table market, Seattle-based Amazon says its Kindle Fire has officially sold out.

The company says the Android-based tablet has captured 22 percent of the tablet market in the U.S. since launching nearly one year ago. The company won’t disclose actual sales number, but says the Fire is the best selling product on Amazon.

“Kindle Fire is sold out, but we have an exciting roadmap ahead. We will continue to offer our customers the best hardware, the best prices, the best customer service, the best cross-platform interoperability, and the best content ecosystem,” said Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos in a news release.

The statement hints at the launch of a new tablet or similar device when the company hosts a previously scheduled
Southern California press event next week.
