Police have arrested another suspect in the shooting death of Pierce County Deputy Daniel McCartney.

A 29-year-old woman was arrested at a house in Roy and booked into Pierce County jail on Tuesday. Law enforcement believes she helped plan the robbery and was in the getaway car during the shooting, The Tacoma News Tribune reported. The woman has been charged with first-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping.

Deputy McCartney was shot and killed earlier this month while responding to a home burglary in Frederickson.

Two other suspects, 32-year-old Frank Pawul and 52-year-old Brenda Troyer, were arrested and charged with murder within days of the shooting. A third suspect, Henry Carden, was found dead at the scene.

The Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office alleges that Pawul and Henry Carden were driven to the Frederickson house in a getaway car. Three adults and two children were in the home. Pawul and Carden broke into the home and demanded money. They were wearing masks and holding handguns. They also had “bowie” style knives.

The residents were taken at gunpoint into the home’s master bedroom, according to police. One resident escaped through a window and called 911 at 11:24 p.m. Six minutes later, Deputy Daniel McCartney arrived on the scene. He notified dispatch that he was pursuing the two male suspects on foot. Shortly thereafter, he reported “shots fired.”

When backup arrived on the scene, Deputy McCartney had been shot. Carden was found dead, having been shot several times. Carden, however, was wearing body armor and was killed by a self-inflicted gun wound to the head.

Pawul initially escaped but was taken into custody the next morning. Brenda Troyer was also arrested a day later.

McCartney, a Navy veteran, was a father of three.
