At least one ski resort ‘on the verge of opening’ as moisture returns

A series of weather systems will bring plenty of lowland rain and mountain snow over the next few days.
The mountains could get enough snow for at least one mountain resort to open this Friday, KIRO 7 Meteorologist Nick Allard says. Snow levels are expected to be 4,000 feet or lower.
Crystal Mountain has a tentative opening date of Nov. 10. The mountain needs about 6 inches to open limited operations.
“We are expecting more snow starting Wednesday night and will make a final decision Thursday afternoon,” a statement from, the resort read.
Stevens Pass has set a tentative opening day of Nov. 17.

We’ve already had two days of lowland snow around Puget Sound. Though forecasters say the snowfall is a bit early, but not unusual.

The National Weather Service says early measurable snow doesn’t promise a snowy winter in the Puget Sound lowlands. However, there have been several years where early measurable snowfall has preceded double-digit season totals in the lowlands.
As for the rest of this week and weekend, we can expect consistent rain through Thursday. Things will calm down Friday and Saturday. Saturday could be the driest day this week. Rain returns Sunday.
