A star-studded event featuring 16 former Olympians will be held Monday to raise funds for injured gymnast Jacoby Miles.
A star-studded event featuring 16 former Olympians will be held Monday to raise funds for wounded gymnast Jacoby Miles.
Miles was left paralyzed from the chest down after she landed on her neck following a dismount from the uneven bars on Nov. 17. Doctors say she may never walk again.
The event being held at the Temple Theatre in Tacoma on Monday will raise funds for Miles’ medical bills and rehabilitation.
Gymnast legends including Olga Korbut, Kerri Strug, and Carly Patterson will be among the attendees. There are also a few Olympic athletes from other sports including U.S. women’s soccer goalie Hope Solo, and Seattle boxer Queen Underwood.
“All proceeds of this auction benefit Jacoby and her family to provide the best care possible that insurance does not cover. The goal of the auction is to raise $125,000,” said Julie Malloy, a volunteer for the auction. “Jacoby’s recovery is going to be a long process.”
710 ESPN Seattle’s Brock Huard will be emceeing the event, and KIRO Radio host John Curley will serve as auctioneer. Tickets are sold out for the event, but donations can still be made online at the Team Jacoby website.
