Audit of King County Sheriff’s Office called ‘scathing’

The Seattle Police have been criticized for having poor oversight of its officers. Now the King County Sheriff’s Office could be facing similar complaints after an internal audit.
The county hired an outside agency to give the Sheriff’s Office a once over, and it will release its results Tuesday morning. It is making 16 recommendations to improve oversight and how internal investigations are handled.
KING 5 reports the audit is scathing, showing a lack of oversight and accountability at nearly every level.
There were five deputy-involved shootings in 2011. When the auditors asked for the reviews of those shootings, they couldn’t find them because they didn’t exist.
The audit reportedly also includes criticism on how public complaints are handled.
