Backers appeal dismissal of $15 minimum wage ballot measure

Backers of a proposed City of SeaTac ballot measure to create the highest minimum wage in the country are not giving up.
A King County Superior Court Judge Monday invalidated duplicate petitions and barred Proposition One from the ballot. The measure would raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour.
“We have already submitted 250 additional voter signatures to the City of SeaTac. We think that will help take care of it and get us back on the ballot,” said proposition supporter Heather Weiner.
The group “Yes for SeaTac” is also asking the judge to require that the city count the new petitions while at the same time appealing the judge’s ruling. The judge tossed out 61 petition signatures, both original and duplicates. Weiner argues that’s not fair.
If the decision is reversed, it must happen quickly. September 6 is the county’s deadline to send ballots to the printer.
