The Sun might be setting in Pacific. Mayor Cy Sun, that is.

Recall ballots have started arriving in the mail that could oust Mayor Sun after about 18 months on the job.

Tracey Apata helped organize the recall effort. “What we set out to do was to put a ballot in front of people so today is the day that we have accomplished that,” Apata said. “Now it’s in the hands of the voters, and they can make the decision on how they want their city to be run.”

Ballots need to be postmarked by June 25.

Mayor Sun could be thrown out of office by July 9 if the recall is successful. He has been under fire for more than a year after a series of controversial moves, including the firing of city managers and many on the police force.

Sun’s decisions nearly forced the city to dissolve after its insurance carrier dropped its policy because it considered Pacific too risky to insure.

The Korean War veteran won the election by mounting a successful door-to-door campaign as a write-in candidate.
