Bellevue contests reports of lead in elementary school water

The Bellevue School District is disputing an Associated Press story about lead in its schools.
The report stated that fixtures in 13 out of its 16 elementary schools showed lead. But the district said the results were from tests done in 2005.
The Bellevue School District told KIRO 7 that every time a test came back positive for lead, the fixture was replaced. Bellevue School District staff said there is testing underway and the district expects to find no lead in the elementary schools.
Bellevue Utilities further argues that the report is flawed and that its school water meets all government requirements for testing of lead in water.
In fact, the utility reports that during the last round of tests, only one location showed excessive lead in the water. That was due to corrosion and the homeowner fixed the issue.
