Whether or not we get rain Saturday, more than 12,000 people at Seattle Center will get soaked. They’re trying to break a Guinness World Record for the largest water balloon fight of all time.

“The Guinness World Record protocol is everyone must throw at least one water balloon within a 90 second period, but with 300,000 water balloons, we think the water balloon battle will last 10 to 12 minutes,” says Neil Bergquist, the director of the event, called Party Camp.

Just how are they filling all those balloons? Bergquist says volunteers have been working all week.

“We’ve had volunteers filling up balloons since last Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. As we talk right now they’re filling balloons at the Seattle Center. There is a warehouse of kiddie pools.”

The balloon fight starts at 4 p.m. and registration is $25. Party Camp features not only all the water fun, but also a beer garden and live music.

Proceeds from the event go to send kids from Seattle Children’s Hospital to summer camp.
