The U.S. Navy Blue Angels announced on Tuesday that they will return to the skies above Lake Washington as the featured performer during the Seafair Air Show this summer.
Seafair Weekend is scheduled for Aug. 6-8 on Lake Washington. The squadron will premiere their new jet — the Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet. It’ll be the first time in 35 years that the team will use new jets.
Like so many other events, Seafair 2020 was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Seafair is thrilled to have the U.S. Navy Blue Angels back for another two years,” Eric Corning, President & CEO of Seafair said in a news release. “After a 2020 that saw so many events be put on hold, the community is looking forward to welcoming back a true tradition in the Pacific Northwest and the highlight of an action-packed Seafair Weekend Festival.”
Seafair says the flight box will remain open, so the I-90 bridge and Seward Park will remain open.
Seafair Weekend 2022 is already planned for Aug. 5-7.
The Blue Angels have been performing since 1946 — 2021 will be the team’s 75th anniversary.
