A body found floating in Lake Union Sunday has been identified as a teen visiting Seattle from New Zealand.
18-year-old Wynter Emerson was last seen at Bumbershoot.
His family and friends launched a widespread social media campaign to help find him after he disappeared.
A post on Reddit says he had been visiting the United States and Canada for about a month and remained in contact with his family throughout the trip, but then went missing following last weekend’s festival.
“After the festival, his passport was found in a new friends car, and his wallet turned up a day later at a construction site. He has had no money and no identification for a week,” said the post.
The King County Medical Examiners Office says Emerson died on Sept. 2nd. The cause of death is probable drowning, but how he died is undetermined.
The Seattle Police Department says there were no obvious signs of trauma.
The family is seeking donations via PayPal to help raise money to transport Emerson’s body back to New Zealand.
