Body of shoplifting suspect from Tacoma recovered from river near Leavenworth

Mar 12, 2015, 9:07 AM | Updated: 9:22 am

A body that washed up near a Leavenworth boat launch was identified Thursday.

The Chelan County Coroner confirmed the body, which washed up March 3, is that of a transient man who fled after allegedly stealing two bottles of liquor.

Alan Bolic, 28, jumped into the Wenatchee River Dec. 12, fleeing deputies after stealing from a Leavenworth grocery store. He was not seen since entering the river near the mouth of Tumwater Canyon, according to the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office.

Bolic’s body was found approximately 30 feet from shore, floating in 8 feet of water.

County Coroner Wayne Harris used dental records to identify Bolic.

When deputies attempted to contact Bolic in December, he was swept downstream, according to the sheriff’s office. At one point, he was seen grasping a large boulder, but lost his grip and began floating toward a section of rapids.

Bolic was a transient from Tacoma, according to the sheriff’s office. He had been living in the Leavenworth area for about a month.
