It’s become a rare sight, but Friday we will see the flight of a Boeing 787.

It could be a key day in Boeing’s efforts to re-certify its grounded Dreamliners. A test flight of the Dreamliner will take off from Everett at 11:10 a.m., according to Boeing.

The filing of this test flight indicates that other ground tests of the new battery system have been completed.

The cause of two battery fires in January that led to the grounding of the worldwide fleet of 50 Dreamliners is still unknown.

KIRO Radio’s Tim Haeck contributed to this report.
