The two Bremerton Police officers who were shot early Sunday morning have been identified.

Officer Kent Mayfield was seriously injured and is still in the hospital. He sustained two gunshot wounds to the abdomen. Mayfield has been with the Bremerton Police Department for 27 years.

The other injured officer is Allan McComas, who was shot in the waist. He was released from the hospital on Sunday. McComas has worked for Bremerton Police for about a year and a half.

Both Mayfield and McComas are expected to make full recoveries. As per standard protocol, the officers are on administrative assignment pending an investigation into the shooting.

Early Sunday morning, Mayfield and McComas approached an SUV parked at Lions Park near Lebo Avenue and Hefner Avenue. Police said they believed the man inside had violated a court-issued domestic violence protection order.

According to police, the suspect immediately fired upon the two officers, injuring both. The officers fired back and killed the man.

The suspect had prior involvements with the department and was arrested on November 14 following a domestic violence incident, police said.
