Jul 22, 2025, 9:34 AM | Updated: 9:49 am

A wildfire in the Columbia River Gorge has scorched nearly 11,000 acres in Klickitat County, forcing a portion of Highway 14 to close.

Highway 14 is closed in both directions, from milepost 66 near Bingen to milepost 75.8 near SR 142, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). SR 142 is also closed within Klickitat County, as well as Centerville Highway from Highway 14 to Centerville.

The fire, dubbed the Burdoin Fire, has destroyed 14 “primary structures” in addition to another 100-something structures suffering damages, according to The Columbian, prompting Level 3 “get out now” evacuations.

The fire is 0% contained, as of this reporting. The wildfire started around 2:30 p.m. Friday.

More than 400 fire personnel and 56 engines are actively fighting the wildfire. One firefighter was transported to a medical facility for injuries. There is no word on the firefighter’s condition, according to The Columbian.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has authorized using federal funds to help cover the costs.

Emergency shelters are set up in White Salmon in Washington and The Dalles in Oregon.
