After eight months of frustrating detours, local bikers
and
joggers are celebrating the reopening of the busiest
stretch
of the popular Burke-Gilman trail.

“This is the area we needed to upgrade the most and we’ve
been hearing for years and years from trail users,
neighbors and the community it was a high priority,” says
Kevin Brown, King County Parks Director.

The trail is now more like a road, repaved and widened to
12
feet with soft shoulders added for joggers and walkers.
The
levy-funded project also improved drainage, cleared
vegetation and took out trees whose roots were tearing up
the pavement.

“This is the most popular stretch of trail in King County,
roughly there’s 2 million plus users per year,” Brown
says.

The improvements, stretching from NE 145th Street to Log
Boom
Park, also include better signage and lighting along with
upgraded intersections.

A grand reopening celebration is scheduled for Tuesday
afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
