The Seattle Fire Department has responded to reports of a fire on the 2200 block of 25th Ave. E. The Seattle Police Department is on the scene, reporting that an armed man in crisis is inside the burning home, along with another “injured person” who “may be inside the residence.”

The SPD has cautioned the public to avoid the area.

Seattle Police officers are negotiating with the person in crisis as Seattle firefighters wait to enter the burning home. Crews are actively treating the fire from a distance.

Update 11:30 a.m.: The fire is nearly extinguished and was controlled to the single dwelling

Update 12:08 p.m.: The house fire has been extinguished, and four SPD officers have been transported to Harborview due to smoke inhalation, but are currently in satisfactory condition. SPD has reported that they have recovered two dead bodies from the scene, it is unknown if the person in crisis is one of them. Everyone else living at the home got out safely.

Update 12:35 p.m.: At a press conference with SPD officials they confirmed that a neighbor reported a gunshot this morning. When police responded to the scene they were confronted by the person in crisis, who was armed with a knife and had started a fire that would soon spread to the rest of the house. They also confirmed that one of those found dead at the scene was the suspect in crisis, and the other was a person who was found in the basement.

KIRO Newsradio’s Darren Dedo is reporting live from the scene. Check back for updates.
