A Capitol Hill restaurant owned by a James Beard-nominated chef has suddenly closed its doors.

Stateside, a Vietnamese-French food eatery, is no longer in service, owner Eric Johnson announced on social media.

“Thanks for the memories Seattle!!!” he wrote on Facebook.

The closure comes as a surprise to Seattle locals, according to Eater Seattle. With no warning, fans had no chance for a final visit.

Neighboring bar in Capitol Hill also closes

Foreign National, Johnson’s neighboring bar, also closed after nearly a decade, The Seattle Times reported last week.

Johnson told Eater Seattle the closures were due to the lease being up.

In 2019, Johnson was nominated for a James Beard Award in the Best Chef in the Northwest category.

Stateside was named Seattle Met’s Restaurant of the Year in 2015. However, it received controversy for being a Vietnamese restaurant with a non-Vietnamese chef and for being a more expensive Vietnamese restaurant, Eater Seattle reported.
