Cascade Public Media, a non-profit media association that runs PBS affiliate KCTS 9 and Crosscut.com, has announced that they will be moving offices to a new location in First Hill.

While the current base of operations for the media company has been in Seattle Central, by the armory and Space Needle for the last 38 years, the land has come up for lease in 2024.

After looking for a new location, the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust has granted $750,000 to the company to purchase and refit a 44,000-square-foot space at 316 Broadway Ave.

“Public broadcasting is a valuable way to support independent journalism and diverse storytelling in our region,” said Lorin Schmit Dunlop, program director, M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust. “We are grateful to partner with organizations like Cascade Public Media and we are pleased to play a small role in supporting their purchase of a headquarters building in Seattle that can increase stability for the organization and serve as a media resource for local communities and the region.”

The space will be undergoing renovations in order to outfit the space for the move, with plans to install a state-of-the-art media production, journalism, and community engagement hub.

“Technology has changed tremendously since 1984 when we moved into our first headquarters building at Seattle Center,” said Cascade Public Media CEO Rob Dunlop. “This move allows us to create a modern space that will serve the community’s needs with advanced technology.”

While the move isn’t set to happen until building renovations are complete, the new space will allow the non-profit the space to move into the 21st century and expand its media coverage.
