Celebrating Armed Services Day

In celebration of Armed Services day on Saturday, military personnel and their dependents can check out any of our national parks for free.
Starting Saturday, the parks department will be handing out the free annual passes at park entrances and ranger stations. They are good at more than 2,000 national parks, wildlife refuges, national forests and other public lands around the nation for the coming year.
“Our nation owes a debt of gratitude to our service men and women who make great sacrifices and put their lives on the lines to protect our country and preserve our freedom,” said Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar.
Members of the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and activated National Guard and Reserves can show their military identification card to obtain the pass.
While the passes are only available for active duty personnel, veterans and retirees may be eligible for other discounted passes.
Armed services day is May 19th, marking the end of Armed Services Week.
