Talk about messing up your kid for life. A Minnesota
couple faces criminal charges for allegedly shaving a 12-
year-old girl’s head and making her wear a diaper for
getting an “F” on her report card.
So by comparison, 97.3
KIRO FM’s John Curley should get
the “Father of the Year” award, despite constantly
embarrassing his 10-year-old daughter Charlie.
She joined Wednesday night’s show to describe John’s
ritual humiliation whenever he drops her off at school.
“What do I do?” John asked, feigning ignorance about his
loud shouts out the window as she leaves the car.
“You go, ‘Charlie did you use the bathroom? Do you need to
go poop? Oh the bathroom is over there,’ and when I start
running faster away from the car he starts yelling it
louder,” she said.
“It is the most embarrassing thing, It’s not funny!”
Charlie added as John chuckled.
“It’s not funny to you, I find it to be hilarious,” John
retorted, quite unsympathetically.
But although the parents in Minnesota face up to a year in
jail and a $3,000 crime if convicted, Charlie says her dad
probably shouldn’t do any time. But that doesn’t mean
she’s OK with it, either.
“Hey Charlie, I’m going to drive you to school tomorrow,”
John said, as he bid her goodnight.
“No thanks, I’ll take the bus,” she replied.
So what inspires him to publicly humiliate his kid in
public?
“I think it’s just for fun and sport,” Curley laughed when
I asked him.
“She’s just so cute when she covers her face and runs in
shame, her little backpack bouncing.”
His other favorite tactics include turning up the radio
really loud and singing along to the top 40 pop station.
But he’s saving his best for the not too distant future.
“I can’t wait till she brings her first boyfriend home. I
already have the suit picked out,” he giggled.
