Ciscoe Morris recommends heavy mulch for hot days

It’s going to be a warm week, so you’ll probably be doing
a
lot of watering.
But Master Gardener Ciscoe Morris says the best way to cut
down on your bill is to mulch heavy.
“One inch of compost on the soil surface on a 90 degree
day makes a 15 degree difference in the temperature of the
soil surface.”
Cedar Grove’s Booster Blend is Ciscoe’s favorite because
it has a lot of cow manure in the mix.
He says most plants would survive the hot temperatures
that sometimes move in over Western Washington, except the
ones that love the shade. Just make sure you mulch and
water regularly.
Ciscoe says he wouldn’t mind a good stretch of 90 degree
weather before we all forget what home grown tomatoes
taste like.
